Quick-hitters: Thompson updates DL progress

South Carolina defensive line coach Lance Thompson and several defensive players spoke to the media following Wednesday afternoon's workout.

Wednesday quick-hitters:

** Defensive line coach Lance Thompson says it's a very fluid situation on the defensive line and that they're currently moving a lot of guys around to find the best combinations and teach them the techniques to build a foundation. Thompson says the ultimate goal is to always have the best 11 on the field.

** Thompson says that Qua Lewis is playing both inside and outside on the line. Thompson praises him for being a team-oriented player. Dante Sawyer has been working at defensive end.

** Thompson praised freshman defensive lineman D.J. Wonnum and said that he's very advanced mentally for a true freshman. Thompon compares Wonnum's football smarts to that of a senior.

** Thompson isn't worried about who is listed as a "starter" since the second string will likely go in for the second series anyway.

** Thompson says that South Carolina has a "real deal" offensive line and that going against them every day is something that will help his inexperienced defensive line get better.

** Junior Chris Lammons says he's been working at both cornerback and safety.

** Jordan Diggs says he feels lighter and faster this season and is currently at 205 pounds.
