The highlights:
USC head coach Steve Spurrier said that Connor Mitch and Perry Orth are now tied for the No. 2 job at quarterback behind Dylan Thompson. Spurrier said Mitch practiced well Thursday, but that he wasn't pleased with what he saw from Brendan Nosovitch, who dropped to the No. 4 spot.
Receivers coach and passing game coordinator Steve Spurrier Jr. said Damiere Byrd has gained weight and filled out his frame while recovering from meniscus surgery. Spurrier Jr. also said that Jody Fuller's knee injury was a sprain, and that he hopes Fuller will be back in practice soon.
In light of the recent NLRB ruling that college athletes are employees, Steve Spurrier said he still advocates for college football and basketball players to get paid a stipend for their efforts.
Spurrier said an ideal stipend could be $4,000 to $5,000, or "somewhere in that neighborhood."
Senior tight end Rory Anderson said he would be in favor of college athletes receiving a stipend, but junior tailback Mike Davis said he's content with the current system of compensation.
"At times it may get hard, but you have to get through it," Davis said.
INJURY REPORT. Devin Washington, who injured his hand in practice Tuesday, was a new addition to the list of players wearing yellow at practice. Damiere Byrd (recovering from meniscus surgery) wore pads, but was also in a yellow jersey. Other players wearing yellow were Jordan Diaz (knee), Jody Fuller (knee sprain), Kane Whitehurst (left foot), Connor McLaurin (left leg) and Sidney Rhodes.
