No. 9 South Carolina practiced Thursday afternoon at the Bluff Road Proving Grounds, and Gamecock Central was there.
The highlights:
Defensive coordinator Lorenzo Ward said T.J. Holloman will get his third start of the season at Mike linebacker Saturday. Ward said Holloman and Kaiwan Lewis are both smart players, but Holloman is more suited to defend Tennessee's passing game. Ward said the Volunteers do a good job of spreading the ball around on offense.
Ward said freshman linebacker Skai Moore will play at Tennessee. Moore suffered a slight concussion on the last play of the game at Arkansas and spent time in a yellow jersey this week, but he practiced in his white jersey in full pads today.
Ward said the media has placed too much emphasis on the matchup between Tennessee tackle Tiny Richardson and South Carolina defensive end Jadeveon Clowney. "It takes 11 guys to play football," Ward said.
Ward said he likes the way Jordan Diggs has played at the Spur position this season, but that they will try to get freshman Larenz Bryant some more playing time at that position.
Ward said Victor Hampton has earned his job back and will start at Tennessee. Either T.J. Gurley or Kadetrix Marcus will start at safety position opposite of Brison Williams.
Injury Report: J.T. Surratt suffered a high ankle sprain in practice earlier this week, but is probable to play Saturday, Ward said. Bruce Ellington (ankle) was out of his walking boot and practicing in full pads Thursday. Ronald Patrick (high ankle sprain) was out of his walking boot at practice, but wore a yellow jersey. Chaz Elder (concussion) will not play Saturday, Ward said. Elder wore a yellow jersey and no pads at practice.
Others missing practice or in yellow jerseys Thursday were Cody Waldrop (ankle), Brandon Wilds (elbow, in a brace), Devin Washington (concussion) and Mike Matulis (shoulder).
Up next: South Carolina will have one more day to prepare to face unranked Tennessee in Neyland Stadium Saturday.
