No. 13 South Carolina practiced Wednesday afternoon at the Bluff Road Proving Grounds and Gamecock Central was there. A complete practice report with video will follow shortly.
The highlights:
Steve Spurrier spoke with reporters after practice and said that Connor Shaw would start at quarterback Saturday against Kentucky.
Spurrier also reiterated that the reason his coaches show was pulled from the air and from the school website was because he was too negative in his comments about his team, especially the defensive coaches and players.
Spurrier said he's been pleased with the enthusiasm of the team so far this week in practice and that he's proud of his young team's accomplishments so far.
Running backs coach Everette Sands said that Shon Carson is definitely the No. 2 running back behind Mike Davis and that if at all possible, the staff would like to keep the redshirt on freshman David Williams, but that if it came to it, Williams would play. Williams himself said he'd like to redshirt this season if possible but would do whatever was needed.
Offensive line coach Shawn Elliott said he's been extremely pleased with his unit's production thus far and his depth. He said he can't pick one lineman who has improved any more than the others because as a group they've gotten progressively better every week of the season and he's happy with where they are. He also said it's nice to have the depth he does, particularly at center, where in years past, according to Elliott, "we didn't really even have a backup center."
Tight end Rory "Busta" Anderson returned to practice after missing Monday with a back issue.
INJURY REPORT: Missing practice or in yellow jerseysWednesday were Cody Waldrop (ankle), Devin Washington (concussion) and Mike Matulis (shoulder).
UP NEXT: South Carolina practices tomorrow afternoon at the Bluff Road Proving Grounds.
