Register excited to see where Muschamp takes program

South Carolina's first 2017 commit woke up on National Signing Day earlier this month ready to officially end his recruitment.

It technically ended a long time ago. Chapin (S.C.) class of 2017 four-star tight end Will Register decided he was going to go to Carolina even before recruitment began.

“I’ve been committed to The Gamecocks for about a year and some months now, it’s been a wild ride and I’m glad to finally say it’s here," said Register, who committed in June of 2015. "It felt like Christmas morning waking up."

The majority of Chapin High School showed up to see Register put pen to paper. The nation's No. 14 tight end was able to sign with three floors of students, teachers and parents there to support his decision.

“It’s really humbling to see all these students come out to support me and Will Webster, Kale Rhame and some of the other people signing to go to college,” Register said.

Register has been recruited by Carolina since Steve Spurrier was head coach, but is excited to see where Will Muschamp takes the team.

“Muschamp is a great guy. I love his enthusiasm. He’s a really hands-on coach and really has the attitude to win,” Register said. “I think that’s something you need in a head football coach; you definitely need someone that’s going to lead you to win day in and day out.”

As part of Mushamp’s first full-cycle recruiting class, Register says they’re going to try to improve as much as possible. After Muschamp doubled the team's win total from a season ago, Register is excited to see how the program develops from here.

"Hopefully we can continue to do that growth and behind his lead we can accomplish a lot of great things for South Carolina," Register said.
