Ringer talks pledge

Two weeks ago, Gamecock basketball coach Frank Martin landed his first recruit in the 2013 class; three-star Desmond Ringer of Eagles Landing High School. The 6-foot-9 post player discussed his commitment on record recently with Gamecock Central.
"I chose South Carolina because of the opportunity," Ringer said. "The players there were cool on my visit. I love Coach Martin. He won't lie to you and I think I can develop there as a player. The education was good as well for what I am trying to do. I want to major in business or biology."

Ringer will add much needed size to the Gamecock roster that currently has only two true post threats, Carlton Geathers (injured) and Laimonas Chatkevicius.
"I think I am a power forward and a center," he said. "I can shoot the 15 foot jump shot well. I think I have good footwork around the basket. I like to bang against other post players."
Ringer was well aware of the Gamecocks gaining a commitment from nationally ranked recruit Sindarius Thornwell recently. He gave his thoughts on his future teammate.
"I think it's great," Ringer stated. "We can do a lot of good for the school and the basketball program. I've played against him and now I look forward to playing with him."
Ringer has high hopes for his career at USC but for now he is focused on the task at hand.
"For right now I just want to be the best player I can be my senior year of high school," he said. "I want to go in at South Carolina and have an impact by working hard.
