Laurinburg (N.C.) Scotland County defensive end Travian Robertson, one of the top overall prospects in the Tar Heel State this year, took an unofficial visit to South Carolina on Wednesday. It was the 6-foot-4, 230-pound Robertson's second trip to the Columbia campus, and he enjoyed the trip.

"They really did a good job of welcoming me and making me feel comfortable," Robertson said. "I got the chance to sit down and talk with Coach (Steve) Spurrier. We talked about his trophies and his championships and just a lot of the things he's done as a coach. He's a good guy."
Robertson, who runs the 40-yard dash in 4.6 seconds, also spent a lot of time with his potential position coach, Brad Lawing.
"Coach Lawing spent a lot of time talking to me about their scheme and what he's looking for in a defensive end. He said they really need some speed, and that's my biggest strength. He said this class of 2007 is very important to them, and he hopes I'm going to be a part of it."
While Robertson stopped short of naming the Gamecocks as his individual favorite, he did leave campus with a very positive feeling.
"I really like South Carolina a lot so far," he said. "I don't have any doubts at all about them in my head. I like pretty much everything."
While Robertson isn't sure when he'll make his decision, he does know what he's looking for in a school.
"I want to know I'll have the chance to play early. I'm not worried about a starting position, but just knowing I'll get to play. Academics and facilities are also factors for me. The last thing is my relationship with my position coach because I'll be spending so much time with him for four years. I want to feel comfortable with him."
Three teams currently stand out the most to Robertson.
"South Carolina, NC State and Clemson are the main schools I'm thinking about right now until I take more visits this summer."
