Shawn Smith no longer committed to South Carolina

Brunswick (Ga.) wide receiver Shawn Smith is no longer committed to South Carolina, the three-star prospect announced on Twitter Tuesday afternoon.

"After attending the game this weekend and talking to the South Carolina coaches, I've decided that it's best for me to de-commit from the University of South Carolina," Smith said. "The Carolina coaching staff has accepted several other WRs commitments and I feel I'm no longer a top priority in their future plans. I will reopen my recruitment process and look forward to exploring other college options that will best fit my future academically and athletically. Much love Gamecock nation and God bless."

***Insight on Shawn Smith's decommitment***

Smith become the first wide receiver commitment of the class in late April when he chose the Gamecocks over offers from Auburn, Cincinnati, Duke, Florida, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Kentucky, Miami, Mississippi State, UCF and West Virginia.

But since then, South Carolina has landed pledges from in-state four-star receivers OrTre Smith and Shi Smith. The Gamecocks are also in the running for four-star receiver Chad Terrell.

Shawn Smith is considered the No. 87 wide receiver in the class of 2017 by Rivals.com.
