What has long been rumored is now official.

Coffeyville (Kansas) Community College cornerback Steven Montac has joined the South Carolina football program as a late addition to the Gamecocks' 2016 class.

"Steve Montac got here today and was a pleasant surprise for us to see him outside (at cornerback," Robinson said. "He's here. He was at practice today, (his) first day."

The 5-foot-11, 190-pound Montac attended junior college last season as a full qualifier meaning if they right opportunity came along that he could leave before the usually required two seasons at junior college.

Montac, a teammate at Coffeyville of Gamecocks newcomer JaMarcus King, obviously felt like South Carolina was the right fit.

Montac joins a Carolina secondary that is in great need of depth. Head coach Will Muschamp has mentioned previously that the group was light years from where it needed to be.

Montac graduated from Newton High in Covington, Ga.
