The door for South Carolina quarterback Jake Bentley to play as a freshman, it appears, is still open.

Speaking on the SEC teleconference Wednesday, South Carolina head coach Will Muschamp continued to say that the Gamecocks have to get better play from the quarterback position.

"All three quarterbacks repped today," Muschamp said. "We've rotated all three in there. Multiple issues offensively, but we need to get better at the position, so we repped all three guys."

Muschamp is of course referring to Perry Orth, Brandon McIlwain and Bentley, who has dressed for all six games but has yet to play a snap.

Orth started the first two games of the season before McIlwain started the next three only to give way to Orth again in the final quarter of his third start. Orth started this past week in the sixth game of Carolina's 2-4 start to the season.

Orth has completed 57 of 90 passes for 661 yards and two interceptions (no touchdowns). McIlwain has completed 56 of 106 throws for 567 yards, two touchdowns and a pick. He's also rushed for 98 yards and two touchdowns.

Muschamp said following the 28-14 loss to Georgia that all positions on the offense are open.

The Gamecocks, currently on a bye week, return to action Saturday Oct. 22 at noon against UMass.
