Tiger commitment Ruffin plans to visit USC

Tallahassee (Fla.) Leon offensive lineman Quentez Ruffin committed to Clemson back in the summer and remains committed to the Tigers today. But that commitment isn’t going to keep him from visiting other schools.
“I am committed to Clemson and right now that’s where I want to go,” the 6-foot-5, 295-pound Ruffin said. “But I’m watching to see how everything unfolds this season and I want to look closely at a couple of other schools. I want to feel totally secure in my decision.”

Ruffin is currently considering three schools in addition to the Tigers.
“I’m also looking at South Carolina, Oklahoma State and Florida,” he said. “Florida hasn’t offered me but they’re supposed to let me know something soon. They just got my senior film and are going to get back in touch with me.”
One of the big reasons Ruffin, who bench presses 385 pounds, is looking at South Carolina is due to the efforts of his Gamecock recruiter Rick Stockstill.
“I would say South Carolina is my second-place team right now,” Ruffin said. “Coach Stock is recruiting me the hardest of anyone. He calls me every week and sends 2-3 hand-written letters a week. He also sends me a fax on gamedays.”
As Ruffin, who runs the 40-yard dash in 4.9 seconds, takes his visits, he has a clear idea of what criteria he’ll base his decision on.
“The stability of the coaching staffs is important to me,” he said. “I plan to major in either engineering or architecture and I want to go somewhere that offers strong academic programs in those fields. And I’d like to a school where there’s a chance for me to break into rotation early. I know that won’t be easy, but I think I can do it.”
Ruffin says he’ll know for sure which school is best for him after he takes his official visits.
“Once the season is over and I’ve taken my official visits, I’ll know for sure whether I’m sticking with my Clemson commitment,” he said. “Like I said, right now, that’s who I’m committed to and I want that to work out. But I’ve got to see how the season goes and how I feel on my visits. After I take those, I’ll know 100% for sure where I’m going.”
