Charlotte (N.C.) North Mecklenburg running back/athlete Daryl Vereen took an unofficial visit to South Carolina over the weekend, and enjoyed himself while on the Columbia campus.

"It was a lot of fun," the 6-foot, 187-pound Vereen said. "I had been down there once before, but this time I got to see more of the campus and more of their facilities. I thought it was all real nice."
Vereen was shown around by his recruiter, South Carolina tight ends coach Fred Chatham.
"Both of my parents came down with me, and Coach Chatham was the one that showed us around. It was a good chance to get to know him better. He told us what we wanted to know."
One thing Vereen found out while on campus is which position he's being recruited to play at South Carolina.
"They said they just got a commitment on Friday from a running back named Brian Maddox, so I would have to play safety if I came there. I'll play that position if I have to, but I really would like to get a shot at playing running back in college. But I have played linebacker almost my whole career, so I know how to play on defense, too."
Vereen, who also has offers from Tennessee, NC State and Duke, has a busy summer planned.
"I don't know which days yet, but I'm going to try to visit pretty much all the schools that have offered me, and schools like North Carolina and Clemson. I want to learn as much as I can before I make my commitment."
Three teams stand out to Vereen in no particular order.
"South Carolina, Tennessee and Clemson," he said. "I want to pick my school by the end of the summer if I'm ready."
