While the list on the Insider's Forum of transfer targets is getting pretty extensive at this point, things have already begun to move quickly for several targets. Many reports came out last week about Miami RB Don Chaney Jr. and his intentions to visit soon, but now it seems like injury concerns might prevent the two sides from finding an agreement.

On the other hand, there are several other targets that should be on campus in the coming days at key positions, several of which could make their decision sooner than later. Here's a quick rundown of who I've heard should visit before the weekend is over: (If you click on the player card it'll bring you to their college athlete page and updated stats)

It's important to note that this list is not exhaustive, but it's a pretty good indicator of who the Gamecocks have some early momentum with. With that in mind, even though I don't have specific dates on the books yet, I think you should also keep a few other names at the front of mind for now:

Georgia State RB Marcus Carroll

Arkansas State LB Javante Mackey

UT-Martin RB Samuel Franklin

Indiana WR Donaven Mcculley

Vanderbilt WR Will Sheppard

More Key Departures?

After Antwane Wells Jr, Mitch Jeter, and to a lesser extent Omega Blake and Mario Anderson Jr. entered the portal (though the Anderson one still seems like there's more story left), there are obvious questions about other key contributors for the Gamecocks and what their 2024 plans might be. When you look across the roster though, I tend to be cautiously optimistic that the worst is over. One major signal, is the several names who have signed deals already with Garnet Trust, the official NIL partner of the University of South Carolina. I know they are somewhat affiliated with Gamecock Central, but they are also affiliated with the university, and if you're interested in getting in the NIL game, you should put your money there or Carolina Rise. We don't have any interest in getting into all that madness, so we'll just report the news over here. Here's a quick list of starting players who seem to have locked up deals or announced their return for 2024:

TE Joshua Simon

WR Luke Doty

DL Tonka Hemingway

DL Alex Huntley

DL TJ Sanders

LB Debo Williams

CB OD Fortune

LB Bam Martin-Scott

OL Tree Babalade

S Jalon Kilgore

P Kai Kroeger

While this list is not exhaustive, it gives you a pretty good picture of the core of the Gamecocks returners, and I really haven't heard any major rumors that I'm going to doom and gloom about anyone not on this list right now. If it comes to pass that Wells, Anderson, Jeter, and Blake are the biggest defections this offseason, I think you have to feel pretty okay in today's portal environment. Obviously, there's still a ways to go and things can get weird. The real question though is who Beamer and co. can reel in from other schools over the next month or so, a question we should begin to get answers to soon.

2024 HS Recruiting

There are still a few moving parts to go in the 2024 recruiting class, with perhaps the biggest push coming with current Tennessee WR Braylon Staley, whom the Gamecocks had an in-home with this week in a last push to get him to flip. It's difficult to tell which way Staley is leaning, but I know from quality sources that the staff has been pushing hard for Staley in the last few weeks, and Staley has been somewhat receptive throughout that process.

Things are still unknown for RB Daniel Hill with momentum switching several times over the course of his recruitment, primarily between South Carolina and Alabama. It seems it at least somewhat hinges on priorities, with Hill being the Gamecocks' top priority, but perhaps Bama pushing for other options, while still attempting to keep Hill on the back burner. There are likely more twists and turns in this one before it's all over, but I'll hold my prediction of Hill to South Carolina for now.

Another late 2024 name to keep on your radar is JUCO DL Jerome Simmons who is expected to visit soon to see if there's a mutual fit.
