SOUTH CAROLINA GAMECOCKS FOOTBALL
South Carolina inked two linebackers in its 2019 class, one of which is already on campus and going through spring practice. Linebackers and special teams coach Coleman Hutzler met with the media Tuesday and discussed what he likes about both players.
"He's done a good job, man. He's a physical, downhill, heavy-handed kid, who can do a lot of different things. He's a kid that played running back in high school, he played tight end - he did a lot - wildcat quarterback, all that kind of stuff. He's a physical guy. The mid-year transition for a linebacker is tough. There's a lot mentally thrown on our guys, so he's continuing to work through that and we've got to get him caught up to speed and playing fast. Our scrimmage Saturday, he fit up in there [against the run] - Kevin Harris, a true freshman big ole back - those two were butting heads a bunch, which was awesome."
"Jahmar Brown was unbelievable when he came to camp. A great story about him is, we're in one-on-one [drills] against the running backs and he's just locking up every running back that's trying to run a route against him. He's like, 'Coach, man, this is boring, can we go over there with the wide receivers,' and so we go trotting up and I tell T-Rob, 'Hey, he wants to cover a slot.' And he lines up and plays man-to-man on a slot receiver as a linebacker, so that kind of versatility was very impressive. I'm excited to get him here and get him rolling. He's a very intelligent, hard-working kid, and excited to get him going."
