Safe to say, Monday night's news that South Carolina head coach Steve Spurrier is retiring came as a shock to many, including the Gamecocks' four-star wide receiver commitment Bryan Edwards.
The 6-foot-3, 205-pound Conway (S.C.) standout said on Twitter Monday that he's -- at least for now -- still committed to the Gamecocks.
"As of now, I am verbally committed to USC," Edwards said. "South Carolina is my home, and I have tons of love for it and the University of South Carolina, their program and fans. Obviously the timing of coach Spurrier's retirement is a surprise and sad thing to see, however at the same time, I have to do what is best for me and my future as a student athlete. I will be contemplating my future in the next few weeks in light of recent events."
Edwards committed to the Gamecocks in March over Clemson, Florida and Georgia, among others. Rivals.com considers him the No. 4 prospect in the state of South Carolina, the No. 48 wide receiver in the country and the No. 219 overall prospect in the 2016 class.
