Zandi, Fry earn preseason honors

University of South Carolina placekicker Elliott Fry has been named to the preseason All-SEC second-team and offensive tackle Mason Zandi was tabbed a preseason third-team selection by the league’s 14 coaches, it was announced today.

Fry, a 6-0, 170-pound senior from Frisco, Texas, has been Carolina's placekicker in every game over the past three seasons and owns the school record with 124 consecutive extra points made. His 130 career PATs made and 131 attempted are also South Carolina records, and he stands second in career points with 289. Fry has hit nearly 75 percent of his career field goal attempts, including 81 percent of attempts under 50 yards.

In 2015, he led the team with 85 points scored, hitting 20-of-28 field goals and all 25 extra points.A 2016 Harold White GPA Award winner, two-time member of the SEC Fall Academic Honor Roll, and a nominee for the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team, Elliott was a 2014 second-team All-SEC selection by the league's coaches and is on the preseason Groza Award watch list, which goes to the nation's top placekicker.

Zandi, a 6-9, 315-pound senior from Chapin, S.C., is slated to play the left tackle position this season after starting 10 games a year ago at right tackle.One of the leaders of the offense, Zandi has developed his skills from being a lightly recruited two-star prospect to a linchpin on the offensive line. He will play his final season having already earned a degree in political science.

Alabama and LSU each placed a league-leading 13 representatives on the 2016 coaches All-SEC team that was announced today.
