4-star WR Chad Terrell commits to South Carolina

South Carolina continued adding to its impressive 2017 recruiting class on Friday night with the acquisition of four-star wide receiver Chad Terrell.

The Dallas (Georgia) North Paulding standout announced a verbal commitment to the Gamecocks during Senior Night festivities at his final home game of the 2016 season.

"The area is nice and the players and coaches all seem good," Terrell told GamecockCentral.com on Friday. "I feel like they’re bringing in a good class this year that will help them tremendously in the upcoming years. I feel like they’ll be on the rise. They’ll suit me in my career in their business program which is one of the top ones around right now. It is closer, so that kind of did play an effect in my decision, whether or not I could be OK with being so far from home."

Terrell visited Columbia back in July for the Gamecocks' 'Spurs Up Day' social event, telling GamecockCentral.com following that trip that he was closing in on a decision following that trip. In a news item posted on The Insiders Forum after that visit, GamecockCentral.com also noted that Terrell indicated he had already silently committed to a program. He made an official visit to Oregon at the beginning of September and afterwards, publicly trimmed his list to Oregon, NC State, and South Carolina.

USC wide receivers coach Bryan McClendon appears to be high on Terrell, judging by comments he made to him during Terrell's last visit to campus.

"He is a cool dude," Terrell said in August of McClendon. "His message to me was more of just showing what they have to offer and how it feels to be there with them. He compared me to Julio Jones with the way I play."

During Terrell's initial visit to USC in February, he was impressed with the way South Carolina's program is run under Will Muschamp.

"Their attitude towards thing and the way they are (stood out)," Terrell said. "How they care about their players and whatnot is really interesting to me. Because it's a lot more than just football and it gives you a good place to have a good background from and just a place you'd want to be."

Heading into Friday night's games, Terrell ranked second in the state of Georgia in receiving yards with 1,077 yards, per MaxPreps. Terrell has tallied 55 receptions in total with 15 touchdowns through nine games.

"First off, on the field, I feel like I can do multiple things," Terrell said on Friday of his game. "I can be a first down receiver or a deep threat receiver. Due to my size and physicality, I just feel like it’s easier for me due to my build and stuff. I can find a way to get a first down and shake off a defender. Off the field, I’ll be honest, I’ve never been a super loud person to be screaming and running around. I try to show leadership by my actions. I showed leadership through my plays and celebrating my teammates and team."

Terrell is the third wide receiver prospect to commit to South Carolina carrying a four-star billing in the 2017 class. He joins Palmetto State products OrTre Smith and Shi Smith at the position.
