Beamer: Braden Davis has 'huge upside'

In a season defined by injuries and inconsistencies at the quarterback position, Shane Beamer has significantly bolstered his quarterback room in the last week.

Between the addition of this season's pre season Hesiman favorite Spencer Rattler, four star Tanner Bailey and 2021-22 Gatorade Delaware Football Player of the Year Braden Davis the Gamecocks are looking at a loaded quarterback room next season, a problem that isn't that bad to have.

While Rattler and Bailey are the latest commitments and are likely on the front of fans minds, they shouldn't forget about Davis.

"He can run and he's gotten better as a passer in the last year as well," Beamer said. "You can tell how hard he's worked at it as well, so I'm excited. He's got a huge upside in my opinion."

The 6'6 quarterback is a three star in his own right and Beamer has complimented his intelligence at the quarterback position and football in general.

Davis is one of the players in the class that Beamer commended for committing to the team early on and staying committed through the summer.

Since his commitment in April, Beamer said the "impressive" player has shown improvements and only gotten better since then.

Davis is fresh off a state championship with Middletown High School, it's just another reason why Beamer describes him as a winner.

"[He] won the state championship Saturday up in Delaware," said Beamer. "Braden's just a really, really talented guy, he's a winner."

Beamer said he got the change to see Davis practice last week and not only saw his on field skills but his leadership skills too.

"I was there as they were getting ready to practice for the state championship game," Beamer said. "Just a great leader, a great player and fired up about his potential as a quarterback and here at South Carolina."

Davis will have to embrace the competition in the quarterback room next season, likely playing for the second spot on the depth chart behind Rattler.

He'll get a jump on the competition when he enrolls early in the spring.
