When Justin Row left the Gamecocks after his senior season, he didn't know what the future held. He had hopes of playing professionally but if that didn't work, he wanted to get into coaching.

Now, he has a chance to get a head start on his coaching career.

The former Gamecock middle infielder will join Mark Kingston and his staff as an undergraduate assistant, starting in his official capacity during the spring semester.

He'll work with the team, serving as the the Gamecocks' first base coach during the 2019 season and helping with the day-to-day operation while finishing up his degree.

He joins a long list of former players who came back to be a part of the Gamecock staff with both Matt Price and Blake Cooper spending some time as assistants as well.

Row had two very different seasons in two years at South Carolina, struggling to see the field his junior year and hitting .290 in just 29 games (17 starts).

His senior season was completely different, leading the team with a .347 batting average, which was good for seventh-best in the SEC. He started 47 games and drove in 25 runs while helping anchor the Gamecocks' middle infield.

Row is now the second member of last year's team to join a college coaching staff after Matt Williams signed on to be the graduate assistant at North Greenville University.
