Former Gamecocks starter Jordan Montgomery has won the fifth starting job for the New York Yankees, Manager Joe Girardi announced today. The left-handed pitcher from Sumter has made a recent surge through the minor league ranks to win the job.
Montgomery will make his MLB debut on Wednesday as the Yankees face the Tampa Bay Rays at Yankee Stadium.
Montgomery struck out nine and allowed just three hits and no earned runs in five innings in a High-A warm-up start last week.
From 2012 to 2014, Montgomery started 42 games for the Gamecocks with an ERA of 2.87 and a record of 20-7.
