Former South Carolina safety Isaiah Johnson has been promoted from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' practice squad to the active roster.

Johnson, who has been with the Bucs since he was signed as an undrafted free agent in 2016, will get his first opportunity to play in a regular season game tonight against the Patriots.

Johnson finished second on the team with 74 tackles in his lone season at South Carolina in 2015 after joining the program as a graduate transfer. The former Kansas standout started all 36 Division I games in which he appeared over three seasons with 222 tackles and seven interceptions.

Johnson spent his whole rookie season on Tampa Bay's practice squad and was added to that unit again this September after going to a second training camp with the Buccaneers.

In eight preseason games for the Bucs over two preseasons, Johnson has collected 14 tackles, one interception, four passes defensed and four kick-coverage stops, according to Buccaneers.com.

Tampa Bay safeties Keith Tandy and T.J. Ward are both currently injured.

A Cary, N.C. native, Johnson graduated from Panther Creek High School.
