Gamecocks in the pros: three former players make MLB postseason

Full updates on Gamecock players in the major and minor leagues, including three players' teams securing spots in the postseason.

Jackie Bradley Jr. is in a little slump, hitting 1-for-21 (.048) with three runs and a RBI over the last seven days for the first-place Boston Red Sox. The Sox clinched at least a Wild Card spot this season and need a combination of wins and Yankees losses totaling three to clinch the AL East.

Sam Dyson hasn't given up an earned run since Sept. 1, picking up a save (13) and a win (3-2) for the San Francisco Giants.

Sitting 5.5 games back for the last American Wild Card spot, Whit Merrifield went 9-for-26 (.346) with a home run and a double. He's also driven in five runs for the Kansas City Royals.

Jordan Montgomery is a part of the Yankees' team that clinched a playoff spot this week. He hasn't pitched since Sept. 16, pitching six shutout innings. He's 8-7 with a 4.06 ERA in his first MLB season.

Steve Pearce hasn't played since Sept. 9 with a back injury for the Toronto Blue Jays.

Eliminated from playoff contention, Justin Smoak hit 4-for-19 (.211) for the Blue Jays with two doubles and three walks.

Christian Walker was called up Sept. 10 by the Arizona Diamondbacks, picking up six at-bats so far. He has one hit, a home run, as the D-backs clinched a Wild Card spot Sunday.

Double-A

Joel Seddon finished his season this week with a 3-4 record for the Midland RockHounds (Oakland). He had a 4.88 ERA with a .296 batting average against and a 1.49 WHIP this season.

Max Schrock had a .321/.379/.422 slash line for the Midland RockHounds (Oakland) this season. He had seven home runs, 46 RBI and scored 55 runs this year.
