Jacksonville (Fla.) First Coast safety Arkee Smith plays for one of the most talented teams in the Northern Florida area, and the 6-foot-1, 185-pound head hunter could be on the verge of a commitment.

"I've pretty much decided on South Carolina," Smith said. "I haven't made it official yet, but that's pretty much where I'm going."
Smith, racked up over 40 tackles and two interceptions as a junior, likes several aspects of the Gamecock program.
"I went to camp there with a bunch of my teammates earlier this summer, and I liked it a lot. They were impressed with me and offered me after that. I like the coaches, their academics and just the whole school. I like my recruiter, coach (Steve) Spurrier Jr."
Smith, who ran the 40-yard dash in 4.5 seconds at South Florida's camp last weekend, also likes the opportunity of playing for a great head coach.
"I've been following Steve Spurrier since he was at Florida," Smith said. "I've always liked his style and the way he does things as a coach. He's one of the best coaches out there today."
Smith, who also recovered one fumble and caused another as a junior, has other offers, but isn't sure of the specifics.
"I have a few other scholarships, but my coach has all that information. South Carolina is the offer I wanted, though."
His official commitment could come at anytime.
"It could be this week. I've got to talk about it with my family a little more, but it could be real soon."
