Will Muschamp announced on Tuesday that Gamecock football wide receiver Jalen Brooks had his waiver for immediate eligibility denied by the NCAA.

A North Carolina native, Brooks spent two seasons playing at Wingate before transferring to Tarleton State in Texas and spending the spring semester there. He joined the Gamecocks program as a scholarship transfer in August.

If eligible, Brooks was expected to be one of South Carolina's top three options at the wide receiver position. Muschamp noted that the university will appeal the NCAA's decision.
