Will Muschamp's latest trip to York County Thursday evening was to meet and greet with South Carolina fans for another stop on the Gamecock Club's Spurs Up Tour.
His usual stops in the area are to find top football players.
"I've been up here a bunch in Rock Hill," Muschamp said. "A lot of great Gamecocks are from here. I've been a lot of places not just in the state of South Carolina, but this is some of the best high school football in the country. Obviously, South Pointe winning back-to-back state championships and Northwestern winning a state championship, I believe two years ago. York's been good, Nation Ford's been good, Rock Hill High School. There's a lot of really good football players here and some outstanding football coaches."
Recent South Carolina stars like Jadeveon Clowney and Stephon Gilmore, who both hail from Rock Hill's South Pointe, of course need no introduction to Carolina fans.
The Gamecocks have just one Rock Hill native on their current roster in former South Pointe defensive back Chris Smith.

NOTES:
** Muschamp reiterated that wide receiver Deebo Samuel was in no way involved in an alleged altercation at a 5 Points bar that his name was originally linked to. Muschamp says they're still in the process of gathering other details.
** Muschamp says that junior college signees Javon Kinlaw and Eldridge Thompson are still on track to enroll for the Maymester session. He did not have an update on when junior college signee Keisean Nixon will join the team.
** South Carolina students finished exams on Tuesday and while all the grades have not been posted, Muschamp thinks the team is in good shape academically. There have been no new roster changes since the announced departures of defensive tackles Dexter Wideman and Stephon Taylor Tuesday.
** Muschamp says that player-run-practices are instrumental in the team's development throughout the summer since the staff can't be on the practice field with them during that time of the year.
** Muschamp feels like South Carolina has leaders already on the offensive side of the ball. He's hoping that leaders will emerge on the defensive side of the ball, but he's confident that will happen.
** Muschamp says there are no injuries that are expected to linger into the season.
