SOUTH CAROLINA GAMECOCKS FOOTBALL

South Carolina redshirt junior kicker Parker White, a former walk-on, was officially placed on scholarship during Saturday's Garnet and Black spring game.

"It was any easy decision," Muschamp said. "He's won two games for us going out there to kick the final kick of the game. A guy that went through a very up and down first year and fought through that. He had a fantastic year for us last year and just did a really nice job for us."

After hitting a field goal from 37 yards out heading into halftime, a video directed at White started on the video board at Williams-Brice Stadium surprising him with the news before his teammates surrounded him to celebrate.

"It was definitely great," White said. "I definitely want to thank God and all my coaches and my family for allowing it to happen, specifically my parents and grandparents for helping pay through school, so I could be here until now. Having my parents come out on the field and all my teammates around me, that was definitely really special, and in front of the best fans in the country."

White, a Wando High graduate, was arguably the Gamecocks' most improved player in 2018. White went 13-for-16 on field goal attempts and 45-for-46 on extra points during the season.

For his career, White is is 27-of-41 (65.9 percent) on field goal attempts, including 21-of-23 (91.3 percent) from inside 40 yards, and 71-for-72 on extra points.

White has his three fourth-quarter game-winning field goals in his career (Louisiana Tech in 2017, Missouri and Tennessee in 2018).
