At the top for Harrell

Tarboro (NC) North Edgecombe F Montrezl Harrell is one of the most athletic hoops prospects in the class of 2012. Saturday he made his way down to South Carolina for an unofficial visit.
"It was great," the four-star forward told GamecockCentral.com. "My dad and coach came with me. We all had fun."

According to Harrell, the football game against Alabama was the highlight of the afternoon.
"We went on the sideline and watched them stretch before the game. They played great. They controlled the game from beginning to end. The crowd was crazy. I haven't seen anything like that before.
Harrell is no stranger to the gridiron, as he also plays football for North Edgecombe on Friday nights.
"This past Friday I scored my first touchdown on a fifty-seven yard interception return," he said.
The 6-foot-7, 200-pounder shared some other highlights from the visit."
"The favorite part of the visit for me was hanging out with the coaches," he said. "They took me around the school. I saw the dorms, the locker room, the practice gym, and the main court. It was great. Everything was nice."
Harrell said that the trip afforded him an opportunity to grow closer to the USC staff, led by head coach Darrin Horn.
"A lot of the players went home because it was the last weekend before practice, so I was hanging around with the coaches the whole time getting to know them better. I like them a lot."
Harrell admitted that he has only seen the Gamecocks play on TV one time, but it happened to be a big one that he caught.
"I watched the Kentucky game last year," he said. "They played together as a team. I like their style. They like to get out and run. I think it fits me because I like to run, block shots, and crash the boards."
Harrell nearly averaged a triple-double last year at North Edgecombe as a sophomore. He went from relatively unknown in the spring, to a Rivals.com top 100 player by mid-summer. College coaches began to take notice of his talents this summer on the AAU circuit.
Other schools that are in hot pursuit according to Harrell are Wake Forest, Clemson, Virginia Tech, Xavier, and Miami.
When asked where USC stood on his list, Harrell had this to say:
"They are up at the top," he said. "I don't have a leader, but they are high up on my list right now. I'm really feeling them right now."
Harrell is already looking forward to a return trip to Columbia in the near future.
"The coaches told me they want to get me back down for a game this season."
With basketball season less the a month away, Harrell isn't in any rush to make an early decision. When asked about a time frame for a commitment, he said:
"At the end of AAU season next summer I should be ready, right at the beginning of my senior year."
