South Carolina two-sport athlete Brandon McIlwain will transfer from the school, the sophomore announced on Twitter Wednesday afternoon.
The 6-foot, 190-pounder is a former four-star prospect who enrolled early at South Carolina last January in order to compete in both baseball and football. But McIlwain played sparingly in baseball last season as he concentrated on spring football practice.
As a freshman football player McIlwain played in eight games, was 1-2 as a starter, and completed 62-of-118 passes for 600 yards with two TDs and one interception. He added 63 carries for 127 yards and two scores.
McIlwain's playing time dwindled as the season progressed and Jake Bentley started the final seven games.
McIlwain has played in just one game this baseball season and has not recorded an at-bat.
