C.J. Barber Announces His Decision

Rock Hill (S.C.) Northwestern safety C.J. Barber has made a decision. The 6-foot-2, 215-pound All-State performer had offers from Georgia, Florida, South Carolina, Clemson, North Carolina, and many others. But his desire to stay in the state has resulted in a furious battle between the Gamecocks and Tigers for his services.

According to an article written by Barry Byers and published in Sunday's edition of the Rock Hill Herald, Barber has decided to attend the University of South Carolina.

"I've been a Gamecocks' fan all my life, but I also considered Clemson," Barber told Byers. "Both schools have great programs, but it came down to South Carolina was the situation that was best for me. The team needs defensive backs.

"It's great to have the opportunity to further my education and to play football in the Southeastern Conference. Skip Holtz did a great job recruiting me, and he won me over from the start. The coaches told me they want me to play safety, but I'll play any position they ask me to play that will help the team."

Barber is the nation's No. 13 safety and a four-star prospect. He is considered by many as an elite prospect that can make an immediate impact on the Gamecocks' two-deep depth chart at safety. Barber is commitment No. 22 for the Gamecocks.
