Charlotte linebacker takes in Gamecocks practice

Charlotte (N.C.) Vance class of 2018 three-star linebacker Gerald Nathan Jr. is receiving interest from South Carolina and was in Columbia for the Gamecocks' spring practice Monday morning.

"Some things that really stood out were the tempo that the linebackers coach had them boys going at," Nathan said. "Then when I met the strength coach I had a blast with him. The dorms that the players stay in really stood out to me too."

The 6-foot-2, 195-pound speedy linebacker holds early offers from Iowa State, Appalachian State and Old Dominion.

Running backs coach Bobby Bentley is recruiting Nathan for the Gamecocks.

"I think that Coach Bentley is a get-after-it coach," Nathan said. "He was telling me that he wanted to show me more of the facilities the next time I visited there. But as a player he told me that he really enjoyed watching my film."

Nathan is also hearing from ECU, Wake Forest, NC State, Indiana, Michigan State and Coastal Carolina.

Nathan says there are three factors that will be most important: "If the college has a great engineering program, if my family likes the place, and if it truly is a good fit for me."
