Chris Smith is a cornerback who graduated from South Pointe High School in Rock Hill, S.C. He graduated in 2015 and enrolled at South Carolina for the spring semester.

Coming out of high school he was ranked the sixteenth best player in South Carolina and was a two-star recruit coming out of high school.

He went through all of the spring drills, taking reps primarily with the second team during practice. He's expected to continue to take reps with the twos when fall camp starts Tuesday.

Former No. 31: Thomas Dendy

Thomas Dendy played for the garnet and black from 1982 to 1985, and captained the team in 1985. He was also the starting running back on South Carolina's 1984 "Black Magic" team.

When he graduated in 1985, he left as one of the school's all-time leading rushers. Over his four-year career, he rushed for 2,767 yards, which is good for fifth all time.

He led the Gamecocks in rushing all four years he played and is third all-time in school history with 5.6 yards per carry and he's in the top 10 for career all-purpose yards with 3,317.

One of Dendy's most memorable runs came in 1984 when he rattled off 57-yard run against Florida State in a 38-26 win. Dendy never played in the NFL. He was inducted to the South Carolina Hall of Fame in 2003.
