Dakereon Joyner focused on five

North Charleston (S.C.) Fort Dorchester class of 2018 four-star quarterback Dakereon Joyner is officially focused on just five schools.

"First I would like to thank god for all of the many blessings he has allowed me to receive," Joyner said in a Tweet. "I now want to take time to thank all 26 teams recruiting me and offering me a scholarship to their program throughout this process. I've decided to narrow my list down to 5 schools."

Those five schools are South Carolina, Louisville, N.C. State, Georgia and Virginia Tech.

The 6-foot-1, 190-pound Joyner is ranked the No. 10 ATH in the country by Rivals.com, but all the schools in his final five are recruiting him as a quarterback. Rivals lists Joyner as the No. 165 overall prospect in his class and No. 4 prospect in South Carolina.

Joyner was named the South Carolina Gatorade Player of the Year following his junior season after completing 190 of 297 passes (64 percent) for 3,642 yards and 44 touchdowns, according to the Charleston Post and Courier. He also rushed for 1,089 yards and 12 TDs. His 4,731 yards of total offense is a single-season school record.

Joyner said following a game visit to South Carolina this season that he likes how he fits in the Gamecocks' offensive scheme.

"What really impressed me a lot is how they run the offense," Joyner said. "I kind of like the way coach (Kurt) Roper changed the system and it kind of fits me more, not just me, but the kind of quarterback I am -- dual-threat quarterbacks -- like me and Brandon McIlwain. But it was really good overall."
