What I like: Hinson has a strong basketball background and it shows on tape. He knows how to use his body to “box-out” defenders and has outstanding ball skills. Hinson’s ability to catch the ball at its highest point, when combined with his leaping ability, makes him a mismatch for just about any defensive back in a jump ball situation. He has a great combination of size and speed, and is more fluid in his movements than most prospects of his height. What I like most about in Hinson is his upside, as I believe he’s just beginning to scratch the surface of his talents on the football field.

Instant impact? If the Gamecock coaches want to use Hinson as a tight end in the traditional sense as a blocker and receiver, Hinson would benefit from a redshirt season to further develop physically. If the coaches want to use him more as a split-out receiver, Hinson could earn playing time in 2016, as his combination of size and natural catching ability give him an advantage over other Gamecock receivers.

Rivals rating: Given how raw he is in his technique and positional skills, I understand Hinson’s 5.6 three-star rating. Still, I really like his potential and believe he will likely outperform his rating.
