Flags at half staff: The American flag at Williams-Brice Stadium was at half-mast for Saturday's game with UAB.
The order came from President Barack Obama in remembrance of American Ambassador John Stephens and the other personnel killed in the attacks in Libya.
Honorees: Between the first and second quarter of Saturday's game with UAB, South Carolina honored seven individuals who have been selected to the school's athletic Hall of Fame.
The class includes Thomas Dendy (running back, football), Paul Dietzel (football coach/athletic director), Jay Lynn Hodgin (running back, football), John Leheup (defensive tackle, football), Heather Larkin (volleyball), Steve Liebler (golf) and Warren Lipka (soccer).
Playing Moneyball: UAB got a $900,000 guarantee to play USC on Saturday, but in recent years, the Gamecocks have made a commitment to keep a significant amount of that guaranteed money in state.
The Gamecocks will play Wofford later this season.
Next season, the Gamecocks will host S.C. State, while Furman comes to Columbia in 2014 and The Citadel visits in 2015.
UAB's game with USC was the first of two "money games" for the Blazers this season.
Next week, the Blazers will travel to Ohio State and pick up a check for $850,000.
Saturday's game was the Blazers' 20th against an SEC school, and UAB has had some success.
UAB knocked off LSU 13-10 in 2000 and beat Mississippi State 22-13 in 2004. The Blazers also put a scare into fourth-ranked Georgia before losing 16-13 in 2003.
At the game: It's a bit early in the season for bowl scouts, but representatives from the Capital One Bowl were on hand for Saturday's game.
Gamecock lettermen Syvelle Newton and Troy Duke watched the game from the sideline.
In addition, a scout from the Buffalo Bills was in attendance.
