Florida center pledges to Gamecocks

South Carolina's string of 2019 commitments continued Saturday when Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) St. Thomas Aquinas three-star center Vincent Murphy committed to the Gamecocks.

Murphy was in town for an unofficial visit to the school when he made the pledge.

"It just felt right," Murphy told "I love the school's academic part. The academics were the key for me."

South Carolina offensive line coach Eric Wolford served as Murphy's primary recruiter, and the Sunshine State product credited the assistant as playing a big role in his process.

"He reminds me of one of my old coaches. He has the mentality of, you want to go get it, want to go get a championship. He's like a blue collar worker."

The 6-foot-4, 280-pounder chose the Gamecocks over Georgia Tech, Illinois, Kentucky, Michigan State, Mississippi State, N.C. State, Tennessee, Texas, UCLA and Virginia Tech, among other offers.

Murphy was asked to break down his strengths on the field and what he will bring to the program.

"Aggressiveness," he said. "I finish blocks."

Ranked the No. 4 center in the class, Murphy is the seventh commitment to the Gamecocks' 2019 class.

Rock Hill (S.C.) Northwestern three-star wide receiver Jamario Holley committed to Carolina on Friday.
