Ranked the No. 10 defensive tackle in the country by Rivals.com, the 6-foot-3, 272-pound Webb chose South Carolina over Auburn, Tennessee, Kentucky and Ole Miss, which were some of the schools he was focused on among his 20+ offers.

Webb was recruited to South Carolina by co-offensive coordinator Bryan McClendon and defensive line coach Lance Thompson. Head coach Will Muschamp also had heavy involvement.

Webb decided to pledge to the Gamecocks at the conclusion of a Friday morning visit to campus.

"I just had a feeling in my heart that South Carolina was the place for me," Webb told GamecockCentral.com. "My relationship with the coaching staff is just great. To me, it was meant to be."

A versatile prospect, Webb is viewed by the USC staff as someone who can play the three, six, or nine techniques up front along the defensive line.

"Coach Muschamp said he looks at me as a Jonathan Bullard type. I'm a hybrid player and I can play end or tackle. It really doesn't matter to me."

With offers from Auburn, Tennessee, and many others on the table, what made the difference in Webb's recruitment?

"I would have to say just the way Coach Muschamp and them were recruiting me. They were coming after me hard, I love Columbia, and the fact that I can play quickly."

Webb, who will make his official visit to USC the weekend of the UGA game, will it entertain any further overtures from coaches.

"I'm shutting things down. It's all about being a Gamecock now."

Webb is ranked the No. 196 overall prospect in the country by Rivals.com and could play defensive end or defensive tackle at the next level.

Earlier this week, South Carolina landed a commitment from four-star safety Hamsah Nasirildeen.
