South Carolina added the latest piece to its 2018 Friday night when RHP/3B Bayden Root committed via Twitter.

Root said he’ll play the field as well as pitch when he arrives on campus.

He was a University of Miami commitment until recently when he decommitted and began visiting other schools. South Carolina was one of the first schools he visited and he left very impressed.

The Gamecock coaching staff offered him on his visit in mid-October before he took visits to Vanderbilt and Florida. Root is the tenth member of the class and the fifth pitcher, joining John Gilreath, Josiah Sightler, Daniel Lloyd and Cameron Reeves.

“It feels awesome! I’m so blessed with the opportunity and I cannot wait to represent the university and my family as best I can!!” he said in a message.

Root (6-foot-3, 203 pounds), who is originally from Indiana but goes to TNXL Academy in Florida, is ranked the No. 6 third baseman in the country and the No. 85 overall prospect.
