Quick notes

** This is the 38th meeting in a series that dates back to 1911. The Gators lead the all-time series, 26-8-3, including an 11-6-1 lead when playing in Columbia and a 14-2 advantage in Gainesville. The teams have also met three times at a neutral site with Florida winning once and the other two games ending in a tie.

The Gamecocks have won four of the last seven contests between the two squads after losing 18 of the previous 19 meetings.

** It’s been 125 years since the University of South Carolina laced it up for a December 24, 1892 meeting in Charleston against Furman, a 44-0 setback. 2017 marks the 124th season of intercollegiate football at South Carolina. With a record of 598-572-44, South Carolina is just two wins away from 600.

** The Gamecocks boast 13 players from the state of Florida including Jordon Carty (Lauderdale Lakes), Cole Davis (St. Johns), Rashad Fenton (Miami), Evan Hinson (Deltona), Hayden Hurst (Jacksonville), Tavyn Jackson (Tallahassee), Chris Lammons (Lauderhill), Skai Moore (Cooper City), Christian Pellage (Brooksville), Michael Scarnecchia (Fleming Island), Keir Thomas (Miami), Aaron Thompson (Fort Lauderdale) and Jerad Washington (Jacksonville).

** Several members of the Carolina coaching staff were once part of Gator Nation. Head coach Will Muschamp (2011-14); assistants Coleman Hutzler (2010-11, 2014), Mike Peterson (1995-98, 2014-15), Travaris Robinson (2011-14) and Kurt Roper (2014); strength & conditioning coach Jeff Dillman (2012-14); analyst Kyle Krantz (2013-14) and coordinator of defensive operations Carina Hargreaves (2010-15) have all been Florida Gators.

** With four SEC wins under its belt, South Carolina is poised to win five or more conference games for just the eighth time in 26 seasons. South Carolina tallied a school-record six SEC wins for three-consecutive years from 2011-13, and won five conference games in 2000, 2001, 2005, and 2010.

** The Gamecocks are not only winning the turnover battle, but converting those turnovers into points. Carolina has tallied 62 points off their 15 turnovers, while allowing just three points following their eight turnovers.

South Carolina Gamecocks Depth Chart

Head Coach Will Muschamp

Assistant coaches

Staff Predictions

Collyn Taylor: To say Florida is in disarray right now is an understatement. The Gators have been blown out in their last two games and are scrambling to find any sort of identity with interim head coach Randy Shannon. South Carolina, if it’s progressed at all under Muschamp, needs to show how far the Gamecocks have come this week. Both lines need to dominate and they need to establish the run early. I think they do and it’s a pretty sound victory secured in the second half. USC 31, UF 13

Wes Mitchell: Like most on this panel, I really don't expect a blowout unless Florida just completely no-shows and turns the ball over a bunch. Florida still has talent and this is probably a typical grind-it-out South Carolina SEC football game. I think Carolina controls the game throughout but never really puts it away until the end. USC 27, UF 17

Michael Beckham: While many are calling this a decisive USC win, I’d argue that the Gamecocks simply aren’t built to put teams away, especially a team that mirrors them in Florida. USC and UF are identical in almost every major category. One major difference though. That is turnovers. USC is great in turnover margin, and Florida is the opposite. That is not good for a Florida team that is desperate and on the road. I think USC uses its home crowd and turnovers to edge out the Gators for their fifth SEC win. USC 27, UF 20

Justin Hall: USC is coming off a hard fought game in Athens, while UF got drubbed in CoMo. Where are the Gators mentally? Florida is still very talented. But the Gamecocks, even with a loss last week, should be able to come out fast. Bentley throws for 325 yards and 3 TD’s. USC 30, UF 17

Will Helms: I think Florida's offense will move the ball more consistently with Zaire under center. I also think that he will put the ball in harm's way more often and South Carolina should win the turnover battle. Florida will try to slow the game down, and a late Gator touchdown makes the score closer than the the game. USC 27, UF 17
