Gamecocks injury report: Muschamp confirms two knee injuries

South Carolina head coach Will Muschamp confirmed Saturday that both freshman defensive lineman Tyreek Johnson (ACL) and senior running back Caleb Kinlaw suffered season-ending knee injuries during the first week of preseason camp.

Johnson originally committed to Carolina as part of the 2017 class but delayed enrollment until January 2018 while he was rehabbing a shoulder injury.

"It was a non-contact situation and I hurt for him," Muschamp said. "He's going to be a really good player for us. He had a fantastic spring. But this is a just a speed bump for him. He's going to be a really good football player. Unfortunate that he'll miss this fall."

Kinlaw, a walk-on who is originally from Goose Creek, S.C., transferred to USC last year in order to get back closer to home and appeared in 12 games, primarily on special teams.

"Really hurt for Caleb, being a senior," Muschamp said. "Another non-contact injury. Planted on his foot and his knee gave out. Really hurt for him here being his senor year. He was a very good special teams contributor for us. "

Muschamp said those are the only two major injuries to the team, though they are dealing with the usual bumps and bruises that come along with camp starting.

Freshman defensive lineman Jesus Gibbs had a scope on his meniscus but will be back in a couple weeks, Muschamp said.

Graduate transfer JT Ibe, who has been rehabbing a hip injury, will probably be cleared to do some things Wednesday but Muschamp is not sure yet if he'll be cleared for contact then.

Freshman linebacker Rosendo Louis should be cleared on Wednesday and is out of the sling after suffering a shoulder injury.

Redshirt freshman defensive back Tavyn Jackson has missed a couple of days due to issues with the heat but is expected back this week.
