Tarboro (NC) athlete Todd Gurley has racked up a double digit offer list since the beginning of this year, and the latest program to throw its hat in the ring for him is South Carolina.

"Last Friday Coach (Brad) Lawing, the defensive line coach came to my school and offered me," Gurley told GamecockCentral.com. "It was good. I was waiting for them to come sooner or later. Friday was last day of the recruiting period I think. I had been waiting for South Carolina to come by and they did."
What does the 6-foot-1, 195-pounder know about the USC program that intrigues him?
"The recruits they've been getting lately are some of the top recruits. I think they may be one of best teams in the SEC this year. I like the coaching staff; Coach Lawing and Coach Steve Spurrier. He was great at Duke and Florida and now at South Carolina."
The Tarheel State athlete gave his thoughts on South Carolina's offense, which he watched on television on a couple of occasions during the 2010 season.
"I watched them a couple times last year," he said. "I like the offense they run. They give the back the ball a lot and that's something I like. The quarterback and the freshman, Marcus Lattimore had a good year."
Gurley, who amassed 1,400 yards on 148 carries and scored 27 touchdowns during his junior season, loved what he saw from Lattimore's record-breaking freshman season at Carolina.
"To come in as a freshman and do the things he did is outstanding," Gurley sadi. "He has heart and is a powerful back that can run. He pushes me to want to work harder so one day I might be like him. "
The North Carolina product also tallied 81 tackles on defense, had an interception, and returned a pair of kicks for touchdowns. He made it clear though, that he wants to play on offense at the college level.
"I'm a power and speed back that can also cut well," he described. "People think my size holds me back with my speed but I have the same breakaway speed as a fast back."
Gurley said that he plans on visiting USC over the summer. At this time, there are several schools high on his list, including those in the state of North Carolina such as UNC and NC State.
"Those schools and Auburn and Georgia," he listed as comprising his favorites. "I'm starting to like those two a lot more. South Carolina, they just offered so I haven't been focusing on them. But I'm pretty sure once I start to talk more to the coaches and after I take a visit this summer I will have more interest in them."
Aside from South Carolina, Gurley said he also hopes to see Auburn, Clemson and Georgia on visits this summer. What's the talented playmaker looking for in a program at the next level?
"I want to see how they use their running back," he said. "Somewhere that is winning and just the fan base, really."
Gurley is likely going to make a decision later in the recruiting process.
"I don't plan on doing it anytime soon. If I visit some place that is right I would go ahead but that would be a surprise because I don't plan on it being anytime soon."
