Gamecocks Revamp Recruiting Momentum With 4-Star ATH Zy'Marion Lang

The Gamecocks broke their dry streak on the recruiting trail in the 2024 class today when 4-star Sunshine State ATH Zy'Marion Lang announced his commitment to South Carolina over USF, Kansas State, and Pitt. The Palmetto, FL ATH could play either WR or DB at the next level, but will likely get a look on offense to start things off. With a 6'3" 170 lb frame as he enters his senior season, Lang has plenty of room to fill out once he enters a college strength and conditioning program.

Lang has elected to spend his senior season at Cardinal Mooney HS, a step up in competition that can only better prepare him for life in the SEC. As he told Rivals' National Analyst John Garcia in June, “It feels like the crib over there, I love it over there." It would seem like many recruits in the Beamer era, the "home" and "family" pitches that the program has emphasized the last several years resonated with Lang, who is a recruit still on the rise in the talent-loaded peninsula. It won't be surprising if some Florida area schools come sniffing around even after this commitment, but the Gamecocks have done a nice job setting a strong foundation thus far.

Lang plans to take an Official Visit sometime this fall to South Carolina, probably for a home game. Lang becomes the first commitment for the Gamecocks since June 26th, after missing on a few other July commitments, but all indications point to Lang being a kickstart before a busy August that could see the Gamecocks push their team rankings back into the top 25 after falling over the summer, mostly due to the size of the class compared to others ahead of them. Before Lang's commitment, the class sat at #40 in the national Rivals rankings, but when filtered by average star rating, the class is a much more respectable #16, and probably even higher following the 4-star's pledge.

We'll have more on how Lang could fit into to the Gamecocks' roster soon for premium subscribers. Not yet a premium member of Gamecock Scoop? There's never been a better time to join, with several upcoming commitments and fall camp set to start in the next week.
