Gamecocks running back target sets decision

Melbourne (Fla.) Catholic three-star running back Lavonte Valentine will announce his decision on July 4 at 4 p.m., the 6-foot-2, 190-pounder announced on Twitter Saturday.

In May, Valentine announced a group of top schools that includes South Carolina, Florida, LSU, Notre Dame, Southern California, Louisville and Kentucky.

Valentine, who has family in the state of South Carolina, is one of the fastest backs in the country and ran a 4.34-second 40-yard dash at LSU's camp this summer.

Valentine is being recruited to South Carolina by running backs coach Bobby Bentley.
