Georgia opens as big favorite over Gamecocks
As expected, the #2 Georgia Bulldogs opened as double-digit favorites over South Carolina in Saturday's game at historic Sanford Stadium (92,746). The Bulldogs (8-0, 5-0 SEC) are favored by 21.5-points over the Gamecocks (6-2, 4-2 SEC) according to VegasInsider.com
The home-standing Bulldogs can clinch at least a share of the SEC East with a victory over the Gamecocks. The Gamecocks can improve to five wins in the East should they win, a mark that USC has not attained since Connor Shaw was behind center.
Gamecocks last won in Athens in 2011, a game made famous by two defensive scores by Melvin Ingram, including a 68-yard touchdown run on a fake punt. Georgia has won the last two meetings with the Gamecocks, with the Gamecocks' last victory being the 2014 contest, a 38-35 decision in Columbia over then #6 Georgia.
Gamecocks have performed well as the underdog in 2017. South Carolina's opponents have been favored in five games thus far, with the Gamecocks going 4-1 in those matchups. In the lone loss to Texas A&M, the Gamecocks were still able to beat the spread.
Saturday's matchup will kick off at 3:30 PM ET and will be televised on CBS.
