Joyner excited for OrTre, looks ahead to his decision day
Moments after class of 2017 four-star wide receiver OrTre Smith put on a South Carolina jersey at his announcement ceremony, 2018 four-star quarterback Dakereon Joyner looked ahead to his own announcement next year.
Opponents on the field this Friday when Smith's Wando team takes on Joyner's Fort Dorchester squad, Smith and Joyner were on the same side Sunday evening.
"Really just to show support," Joyner said. "I've known him for a while, playing basketball with him. Just to support. I know he would do the same thing for me, so I wanted to return the favor. I'm excited for him. He's going to the NFL. I'm so excited for him. He's blessed, he's favored by God, and I'm happy for him."
It was widely rumored that Joyner and Smith could end up on the same team at the high school level, but that of course never happened. Could the big-play quarterback end up throwing passes to Smith in college instead?
