The Buddha said, “life is suffering.” I never pegged ole Gautama as a Gamecock fan, but today he sure sounds like one. Sometimes, I wonder if the monastic order Gautama founded in Ancient India had a really bad club soccer team. After decades of “wait till next year,” the Buddha finally relinquished his hope in the ball club, eliminated all desire to win, and found enlightenment. Maybe Gamecock fans are closer to Nirvana than we think.
After a hard-fought loss verse Tennessee and another against the number 3 Gators, the Gamecock faithful find themselves in an all-too-familiar place - the underworld. In Greek mythology, the underworld is the place where souls go after death. If some of the comments made this week are of any indication, the souls of many Gamecock fans are in one of the circles described in Dante’s “Inferno.” Therefore friends, if Billy Brice is to one day return to capacity, a rescue trip to Hades may be in order.
Fans are called fans for a reason and if they were the litmus test of every team I am not sure we would know a whole lot. I am more curious about the current state of this Gamecock football team.
