Latest on Thornwell

Class of 2013 wing Sindarius Thornwell has all the tools to be the next special player to rise from the crop in the state of South Carolina. One of the challenges now for the six-foot-five, 180-pounder from Lancaster High School is to find some consistency on a game-in,game-out basis.

Throughout the spring and summer playing AAU ball with Charlotte based Team United, Thornwell's game was up and down. One day he might score nearly thirty points and look unguardable slashing from the perimeter. However, the next game he would disappear and not be much of a factor.

Thornwell admitted that his play was a bit inconsistent but talked about what he worked on to constantly get better.

"Last summer I shot the ball real well but for some reason I couldn't shoot it as good (this summer)," he explained. "I worked hard on my ball handling and I got better at attacking the basket more. Right now I'm just getting stronger and getting shots up all the time in the gym."

The rising junior, whom Rivals has pegged as the 39th-best prospect in his class, has undeniable athleticism and next-level potential. Many schools such as South Carolina, Clemson, Charlotte, Miami, and NC State have had offers on the table for a while now. Others are just starting to enter the picture after scouting him further this July.

"Georgia, Villanova, Tennessee, Boston College, Virginia Tech, LSU, and Arkansas are all recruiting me now. Most of them watched us play last month."

Thornwell would like to start visiting several of these programs soon but doesn't have any plans set in stone to date.

"No I wouldn't mind going to any one of them to be honest, but I haven't planned any yet," he said.

Both in-state programs, South Carolina and Clemson have been recruiting the Lancaster High product for a couple years now and both have formed strong relationships with Thornwell and his family. In fact, each school recently caught up with Thornwell on the same day.

"I talked to Coach Mike (Boynton) like two or three days ago. Right after I talked to him I was talking to Clemson that same day. He (Boynton) was just asking how I was doing and we were talking about my shot and what I can work on. He talked about coming to watch me again whenever he can."

With constant contact from USC and Clemson, as well as many other SEC and ACC programs, Thornwell is yet to publicly narrow his list of favorite schools.

"I'm pretty much wide open for now," he stated. "I have some schools in mind but I just want to play and enjoy the moment."

Despite all the attention from college coaches and pressures that come with the grueling recruiting process, Thornwell is staying level headed and taking his time with his decision.

"I don't know when I'll commit. I'm just giong to let it happen and let everything fall in place."
