The 6-foot-4, 219-pounder is ranked by Rivals.com as a 5.5 three-star prospect. He drew scholarship offers from Illinois, Indiana, Memphis, and Western Kentucky. Markway's lead recruiter for the Gamecocks is assistant Steve Spurrier Jr..
"It's the most comfortable I have felt at a school I visited," Markway told GamecockCentral.com. The opportunities they have there are endless. To be able to play under Coach Spurrier and to play in a program like South Carolina is a dream come true."
Markway visited USC for the Garnet and Black Game in April and told Rivals.com after that trip that his recruitment was likely to come down to Iowa and the Gamecocks. USC ultimately won that battle with Markway's decision on Sunday night.
"Just pumped up," Markway told GCC of Spurrier Jr. and assistant Joe Robinson's reaction when told of the news on Sunday. "They told me the opportunities I would have there and how good I will fit in up there. They said I'm exactly what they are looking for."
