Mr. Football

Lexington (S.C.) wide receiver Shaq Roland captured South Carolina's Mr. Football award on Friday night in Myrtle Beach.

Roland, a 6-foot-1, 180-pounder, will be the fourth straight S.C. Mr. Football to have signed with South Carolina when he puts ink to paper in February.

Rivals.com rates Roland as a four-star prospect and the top overall prospect in the state of South Carolina. He is recognized by Rivals.com as the country's fifteenth-best wide receiver prospect and checks in at number 80 on the 2012 Rivals100.

Roland will participate in the Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas on December 17 as well as ESPN's Under Armour All-American Game on January 5.

The talented wideout pledged to the Gamecocks in July, spurning multiple scholarship offers from the likes of Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, Florida, Georgia, LSU, and others.

Over the summer, GamecockCentral.com spoke with Lexington head coach Scott Earley who raved about his star player.

"He's a complete player that has a complete skill set. There's nothing on a football field he can't do or enjoy doing. He is also the ultimate competitor. He wants to compete and win and that's important to him. Most people have two gears and Shaq has three. He runs as hard as he has to to get it and jumps as he has to to get it. Shaq has a lot of fun playing the game. He has more fun at practice than he does Friday night. He's going to be real successful."

"He's just quiet, humble, and hates attention. He just likes to be left alone and be a student athlete."
