Newly announced South Carolina football coach Will Muschamp hit the recruiting trail running on his first day on the job as he's set to see at least two of the state's top targets.
Muschamp, along with former interim coach Shawn Elliott who is remaining on staff, dropped in on Columbia (S.C.) three-star linebacker T.J. Brunson this afternoon and will meet with Conway (S.C.) four-star wide receiver Bryan Edwards tonight.
"They came straight from the press conference," Brunson said. "That's sort of a big deal to go straight out of a press conference and go recruiting and then that they came to me, I thought that was really cool. It shows what they think about me and how much they want me."
"He told me that he wanted to coach me. He extended an offer to me from the current staff. It was cool because he did it."
Brunson, who is currently committed to Louisville, enjoyed hearing how Muschamp would use him at South Carolina.
"He got straight to the point," Brunson said. "He told me everything he thought about me and he was very straightforward about his philosophy. He said they'll run basically a 4-3, but they'll run some 3-4 too and that I have the ability to play as both a one-gap and a two-gap player, so I'm not limited to just one type of style."
Brunson, who officially visited Louisville last weekend, offered the latest on his recruitment after meeting with Muschamp.
"I have to sit down and talk to my family about everything and let everything sink in," Brunson said. "If I do end up making another decision, I want it to be my last one. I want to be 100 percent sure and not have to have any questions about if I made the right decision or not."
The 6-foot-2, 220-pound Brunson first met Muschamp on a recruiting visit to Florida when the Gators hosted Carolina in 2014.
"I think he's a great coach," Brunson said. "Ever since I've known about Will Muschamp, I've thought he was a great coach. He's a good recruiter. I think that what happened at Florida, it was a good learning experience, and I don't think it goes against his character or his ability. I think he's going to turn Carolina back into a place that a lot of people want to talk about and a lot of people want to go to."
