The University of South Carolina's administration is moving towards a pay raise and contract extension for head football coach Will Muschamp, GamecockCentral.com has learned.

According to multiple sources, Athletics Director Ray Tanner is actively engaged in working on a revised contract for Muschamp, who is in his second year at the helm of the Gamecocks' program. The contract terms have yet to be set or finalized; the expectation is that the terms will be completed and approved sometime after the 2017 regular season.

In his first season at USC, Muschamp doubled the Gamecocks' win total from the year prior to his arrival, finishing with a postseason bowl appearance. His 2017 team currently sits at 7-3 with two regular season games and another bowl yet to be played.

Muschamp's initial contract at South Carolina, which went into effect in December of 2015, was for a five year term. Muschamp was paid $3 million in year one; his salary increases by $100,000 each year through the life of the contract until its expiration in December 2020.
